I have been painting portraits for many years and have tried a lot of different combinations of colours. Years ago I fell in love with the Zorn palette (Titanium white, Cadmium red, Yellow ochre and Ivory Black) and was shocked by how much you could accomplish with just a few colours. Over the years since I’ve branched out some, adding a few browns and the unbleached titanium for ease of mixing, as well as Paynes Grey to be able to get the blues, greens and purples that were missing from the limited palette. I find this palette incredible intuitive for painting all range of skin tones and is really full of surprises!
I choose Tri-art’s Liquid Acrylic line because it’s the perfect consistency right out of the bottle and doesn’t need to be watered down to get a nice smooth application. The colours are vibrant and blend well together leaving minimal brush strokes and dry quickly so I can hop right back in on another layer! - Keight MacLean
